Randy Simon provides consulting services to companies and organizations involved with renewable energy, superconductivity, and related technology topics. He has written extensively about solar energy and other aspects of renewable energy and environmental issues in online publications, policy documents, radio scripts and elsewhere. He has over 30 years of experience in materials research, superconducting applications, product development, project management, investor relations and other technical and business areas. He performed research on superconducting materials at the Naval Research Laboratory and then held a variety of scientific and managerial positions at TRW, where he led the company’s research and development efforts on both low-temperature and high-temperature superconductors. He then joined Conductus Inc in Sunnyvale, CA and held a variety of management positions over a 12-year period including those of Vice President, Technical Programs and Chief Technical Officer. With the merger of Conductus and Superconductor Technologies, Inc., he assumed the position of Vice President, Government Business where he managed R&D programs, government contracts and product strategy, development and marketing for government applications until the closure of the former Conductus site. He then held the position of Project Manager at the Energy and Environmental Technology Applications Center at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the University at Albany where he concentrated on projects in solar energy, power electronics and superconductivity. Dr. Simon has authored over 40 technical papers, multiple magazine articles, two industry roadmaps, numerous blogs and online articles, holds seven patents and is co-author of the book Superconductors: Conquering Technology’s New Frontier.
